Terms of Service
Last updated: March 2026
Welcome to Tillage. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to these terms. Please read them — they're written to be clear, not to bury anything.
1. Who We Are
Tillage is a collaborative music platform for rough ideas — the voice memos, half-formed melodies, and unfinished sketches that would otherwise disappear. It exists to give those ideas a chance to grow through collaboration.
Tillage is not a record label, publishing house, or distribution platform. If you have a finished track you want to release commercially, there are better tools for that — DistroKid, Bandcamp, Spotify for Artists. Tillage is for the ideas that aren't there yet. Tillage is operated as an independent app ("we", "us", "our").
2. Your Account
You must be 13 or older to use Tillage. By registering, you confirm you meet this requirement.
You're responsible for keeping your account credentials secure. Don't share your login. If you suspect unauthorised access, contact us immediately at hello@tillage.live.
3. Your Content
You retain ownership of the individual recordings you upload. By posting to Tillage, you grant us a non-exclusive, perpetual, worldwide licence to store, stream, display, and distribute your content within the app and in any Tillage release (see section 5).
You cannot retrospectively withdraw a contribution that has been accepted into a sealed seed or included in a Harvest release. You confirm that anything you upload is your own original work and doesn't infringe anyone else's copyright, including samples and interpolations.
When you contribute a stem to another user's seed, you grant the seed's planter the same licence to include your stem in the collaborative work. Once a stem is accepted into a sealed seed, it becomes a permanent part of that work.
Sealed collaborative seeds are treated as a single collective work. No individual contributor may licence, sell, or otherwise exploit the sealed work independently. Only Tillage may authorise third-party use of a sealed seed, and only in accordance with these terms.
4. Community Rules
Tillage is a creative space. To keep it that way:
- Don't upload content you don't own or have rights to
- Don't harass, threaten, or abuse other users
- Don't upload offensive, hateful, or illegal content
- Don't use the app to spam or promote unrelated commercial content
- Don't attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or interfere with the platform
We reserve the right to remove content or accounts that violate these rules.
5. Copyright & Content Protection
Tillage takes copyright seriously. You must only upload recordings that are entirely your own original work. This means:
- No samples, loops, or interpolations from commercially released music
- No recordings of yourself playing along to another artist's track
- No AI-generated content trained on copyrighted material without the necessary rights
To help enforce this, Tillage uses audio fingerprinting technology (powered by ACRCloud) to automatically scan uploads against a database of commercially released music. Uploads that match known copyrighted works may be blocked or flagged for review.
This detection is not infallible. If your original recording is incorrectly flagged, contact us at hello@tillage.live and we will review it manually.
5a. Copyright Takedown (DMCA)
If you believe content on Tillage infringes your copyright, you may submit a takedown notice to our designated agent. Your notice must include:
- Your full name and contact details (email, postal address)
- A description of the copyrighted work you believe has been infringed
- A description of the infringing content and where it appears on Tillage (e.g. seed title and username)
- A statement that you have a good faith belief that the use is not authorised by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law
- A statement that the information in your notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are the copyright owner or are authorised to act on their behalf
- Your physical or electronic signature
Send takedown notices to: dmca@tillage.live
We will remove or disable access to the identified content promptly upon receipt of a valid notice and will notify the user who uploaded it.
5b. Counter-Notice
If you believe your content was removed in error, you may submit a counter-notice to dmca@tillage.live including:
- Your name and contact details
- Identification of the content that was removed and where it appeared
- A statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good faith belief the content was removed by mistake or misidentification
- Your consent to the jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales
- Your physical or electronic signature
Upon receipt of a valid counter-notice, we may restore the content within 10–14 business days unless the original complainant notifies us they have initiated legal action.
5c. Repeat Infringers
Tillage will terminate accounts of users who are found to be repeat copyright infringers.
6. The Harvest
At the end of Tillage's first year, a curated selection of collaborative seeds may be pressed onto a limited physical vinyl record — the Harvest. Every contributor whose work appears will be credited by name in the liner notes and offered a copy at cost. As the platform grows, our aim is to offer these copies free of charge.
It is a permanent, physical document of what this community created together — the kind of thing most bedroom musicians never get to hold in their hands.
Tillage may generate revenue from vinyl sales. This revenue exists to support the platform and keep it running. Your contribution is recognised through credit and copies, not a share of sales. Tillage will also make a contribution from vinyl proceeds to a charitable cause.
Selection is editorial and limited by the running time of a vinyl record — only a small number of seeds will make the cut. If yours is selected, you'll be contacted directly and asked to confirm your participation before anything is pressed.
Tillage reserves the right to determine how Harvest content is presented and distributed. While contributors retain ownership of their individual recordings, the sealed collaborative work as a whole may only be licenced or distributed through Tillage — no individual contributor may act unilaterally on behalf of the collective work.
If you're planting a seed because you think it has serious commercial potential, that's great — but Tillage is not the right vehicle for that. Take it to a label, a publisher, or release it yourself. Plant it here because you want to see what it becomes when other people get their hands on it.
7. Sync Licensing
From time to time, Tillage may seek to licence sealed collaborative seeds for use in film, television, advertising, or other media — commonly known as sync licensing. We will only pursue this for sealed seeds where all contributors have been credited and the work is complete.
If a sync licensing agreement is reached for a sealed seed, net revenue (after Tillage's 50% administration fee) will be divided equally among all credited contributors to that seed. Tillage will contact contributors via the email address on their account to arrange payment. Contributors who cannot be reached within a reasonable period forfeit their share, which will be donated to charity.
Sync licensing is not guaranteed and may never happen — but if it does, contributors share in it.
8. Privacy
We take your privacy seriously. See our Privacy Policy for full details on what data we collect and how we use it.
9. Service Availability
We aim to keep Tillage running reliably, but we can't guarantee uninterrupted access. We may update, modify, or temporarily suspend features. We'll do our best to communicate significant changes.
10. Limitation of Liability
Tillage is provided "as is". To the fullest extent permitted by law, we're not liable for any indirect or consequential losses arising from your use of the app — including loss of content, collaborations, or revenue.
11. Changes to These Terms
If we make significant changes to these terms, we'll notify you in the app. Continued use after changes take effect means you accept the updated terms.
12. Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
13. Contact
Questions, concerns, or just want to say hello? Reach us at hello@tillage.live.
By using Tillage, you're agreeing to share the ideas that might otherwise die in the dark — and to help other people's ideas grow. That's the whole point. Everything else follows from that.
